Christmas horses and carriage

All the sparkling fun of the fair and shopping til 8!

Christmas Lights Switch On and Late Night Shopping Event

All the fun of the fair and more is being promised for this year’s Late Night Shopping event in Oxted on Thursday, November 15.

Fairground rides and entertainers
From 5pm, the town will be transformed into a fairground with rides, side shows, jugglers, and stilt walkers. Visitors can play the latest games and consoles aboard a gaming bus, and Father Christmas will make an early appearance to switch on the festive lights. Families can also climb aboard a horse and carriage to take them for rides around the town.

Late night shopping
Shops and businesses will keep their doors open until 8pm, providing the chance to make an early start on the Christmas present list. The town boasts a huge variety of fashion, beauty, homewares, toys and much more – from stocking fillers to main presents, plus food and drink gifts.
Many businesses will also add an extra sparkle to the event with a variety of offers, extra hospitality and competitions. Plus Everyman Cinemas will host free showings of a short Christmas film – read more here.

Oxted Unwrapped
Many shops will also be taking part in Oxted Unwrapped – shop windows in Station Road East and Station Road West will be secretly dressed for Christmas, and the big reveal will start in Station Road West at 5pm. Do join the judges as they make their way around the town – and expect plenty of oohs and ahhs as the festive displays are unwrapped!

Live music
The popular Oxted Band will bring a festive note to the Christmas shopping experience, and many shops will be providing a warm welcome with sweets, mince pies and wine.

Father Christmas to switch on the lights
The fun begins at 5pm with the free street entertainment, and Father Christmas will arrive at Lorimers by horse and carriage for 6pm ready to ask the crowds to help him countdown to the festive light switch on. Shops and businesses will stay open until 8pm and there is free parking in the council offices car park after 5pm.

The late-night shopping evening has been organised by Love Oxted – a collective of around 200 town centre businesses working together to make Oxted a better place to shop, work and spend time.

“The event will bring a magical start to the Christmas season and provide a festive showcase of what the town has to offer,” said Louise Round, chair of Oxted BID.  “The free entertainment, light switch on and festive music will create a magical atmosphere for some early Christmas shopping.”
