Local Cupcake Baker wins Silver at International Salon Culinaire

Samantha Centenera, Oxted based owner of Bakes By Sam, was awarded Silver for her cupcake decorating skills at this year’s International Salon Culinaire, the UK’s largest and most prestigious programme of culinary competitions.

This year’s brief was to make and decorate 6 cupcakes with 2 separate designs with an Easter / Spring theme. Sam’s design is inspired by an Easter Egg Hunt, with the first design representing the garden in Springtime, as the flowers start to pop up in the grass. The second design was an Easter Basket, full of eggs, flowers and leaves collected during an Easter Egg Hunt. The cupcakes were an Elderflower and Lemon Sponge, with a Lemon Drizzle and Elderflower Buttercream – fresh, vibrant, and bursting with floral, spring flavours – counteracting the usual Chocolate overload at this time of year.

On winning, Samantha says: ‘I am absolutely thrilled to have won Silver at such a prestigious culinary competition. Baking and piping are my passion and to have my hard work and dedication recognised is amazing, all of the entries were incredible, so I am very honoured.’

Bakes By Sam was born during the lockdown in January 2021, initially offering graze boxes and cupcakes. However Samantha’s passion and skill in piping soon took over and she carved a niche for herself, designing and creating cupcake flower bouquets and bespoke cupcakes. Her unique bouquets are available from just £25.
