Alan Forbes Meet the Author / Book Signing at Oxted Spoons - Saturday 10th August 1-4pm

Ever wondered what it would be like to visit every single Wetherspoons in Britain?! Local couple, Alan Forbes and Agnes Czekaska have done just that... AND written two books about it!

The pair have visited 901 of the chain's venues over eight years (although around 100 have sadly closed in the meantime) and Alan and Agnes will be at Wetherspoons signing their book on Saturday 10th August 1-4pm, so you can go and ask them all about it!

The Books cover Alan and Agnes's travels around the UK beyond, documenting their love of travel and "collecting" experiences - in Alan's case, Airports, Wetherspoons pubs and National Walking Trails!

Alan, who worked for Dan Air for many years has began a 40+ year obsession with visiting airports. And combined this with visiting football grounds. When he met his wife, Agnes, also in the travel industry, she suggested trying to visit as many Wetherspoons pubs as they could and the pair now travel full time, collecting airports, pubs, walking trails and football grounds together, as well as lots of other experiences along the way.

Alan's first Book, "But I Digress", covered much of their travels and its sequel, "Let me Finish" was published earlier this year.

"I have always been obsessed with collecting things," said Alan. "But working for Dan Air gave me the opportunity to collect experiences, places and airports. However, it's not just international travel that's important. There are so many wonderful places to go in our own beautiful country and walking the National Walking Trails, and visiting Wetherspoons is a brilliant way of getting to do that.

Wetherspoons pubs are hugely underrated. Despite their consistent offer in terms of food and drink, their buildings are all completely unique.

Come and meet Alan and Agnes on Saturday 10th August 1-4pm at The Oxted Inn. Hear their stories, buy a book in advance via Amazon or buy one on the day. All proceeds of book sales from the day will go to Young Lives vs Cancer.

Today we’re taking your for a spin around La Mai

Today we’re taking your for a spin around La Maison Boutique, which had a very smart facelift and rebrand earlier this year, and is run by one of the best known faces on Station Road East, Sammy Green, along with the lovely Janene and Val.
Sammy opened La Maison in September 2015 and her little shop is bursting with gifts, homewares, fragrance, cards and jewellery as well as a select range of clothing and accessories and lovely Spanish leather shoes!
“Hello, it’s me again” became a bit of a catchphrase after she started posting her daily videos from the shop in 2022! Sammy is one of our most vocal advocates of independent retail. She is always happy to muck in, and around to lend a hand to other shops, and has served on the Oxted BID (Love Oxted) board. She’s also a bit of an oracle and usually knows what’s happening in the town before anyone else!
If you’re looking for a lovely gift, for anyone (including yourself), you’re bound to find it at La Maison.

FYI 22-28 July, the team will be at Hickstead Royal International Horseshow, so while the shop will be open with lovely Joanna from Tender Trap (downstairs at IG Equine), there will be no individual fittings.
