Over the last week Barclay Briggs Interior Design duo and Oxted residents, Hannah Barclay and Kat Briggs have been taking a spin around Oxted to pick out their fab finds and offer their tips for interior inspiration this autumn/winter.
Here’s where they went and their notes from each…
1 Home Bird
We love this amazing emporium, packed full of a gorgeous eclectic mix of pre-loved furniture and home furnishings, collectables and affordable antiques – all handily located right by the cinema on Oxted’s pretty Station Road West. The shop has been running for seven years now in its current incarnation, which is a collaboration of four like-minded, creative friends, each with their own area or “stall”. There are so many lovely things in this cleverly arranged mini-antiques-fair, and we’ll be snuggling up in one of their luxury blankets this winter for sure.
2 Job’s of Oxted
If you haven’t ventured into Job’s for a while then you must go and have a wander around. This family run business is a mainstay of Oxted’s Station Road West and has been established for over 100 years, offering free delivery to the local area for its beds, mattresses and furniture. It also sells a great selection of homewares and furnishings and we spotted some fab, fun patterned cushions and throws, in on-trend earthy colours, perfect for the season. Textural fringes and pom poms are so tactile and beg to be stroked! We’d definitely include this accent cushion in a family room or children’s bedroom.
3 Home Edit
This great little shop full of understated Scandi inspired homewares and up-cycled furniture has now moved over the road to amalgamate with its sister, Number 44. You’ll be amazed how fashion and homewares combines so well, and there are some wonderful gifts for friends and for yourself, cleverly distributed amongst Anne-Marie’s selection of clothing and accessories. We love the fact you can buy beautiful interiors books in this shop too. We spotted some gorgeous lilac jute baskets, and the golden feather wall sconces add a bit of fun and glamour (Hannah has a couple either side of the mirror above her own fireplace!).
4 The Original Factory Shop
Down at the bottom of Station Road East, the Factory Shop is a go-to when you’re looking for practical, low-cost homewares, storage and bits and pieces for your home. These perfect storage bags would be great in the bathroom to hold all your essentials. We love the tassel detail and natural materials.
5 A Useful Friend
Specialising in traditional hardware and quality household items, this shop is packed full of amazing sustainable, eco-friendly and really useful essentials! We couldn’t be without our garden string balls with cutter, and love the soap bars that come in a range of scents and smell gorgeous.
6 The Carpet Shop
You might be surprised to know that this is the place to go for sustainable underlay and carpets (made from materials collected from the bottom of the sea) and these sustainable flooring options are also surprisingly super soft! They’re definitely worth looking at if you’re thinking of updating your flooring soon. Ask for further details in store – they are very happy to share their knowledge.
7 Oxted Floor Designs
Ever wanted an XL rug and wondered where to get one? Oxted Floor Designs can turn any carpet into a rug for you, with a great range of leather and fabric boarders to create a finished rug. This is a really cost-effective way to cover a hard timber floor and add some softness to your room. It’s definitely worth popping in to see what they can do. They have all the latest flooring as well, and are very happy to impart their expert knowledge.
8 Oxted Kitchens
This delightful showroom on Station Road East, is a great place to go for inspiration. The team are really friendly and the space is brilliant for demonstrating their lovely ranges and quality of design. The kitchens not only look beautiful, but are the most practical hardworking room; we love their pantry with storage on the inner door, there is a space for absolutely everything.
Kat and Hannah are the interior designers behind the new Hammond’s Wine Bar & Restaurant coming to Oxted imminently.
Having designed the “middle room” of Oxted’s The Ginistry, and Limpsfield’s The Bull Inn, we are very excited to see what they have come up with for Hammond’s. Although we’ve seen the plans, much of their design scheme is still under wraps!
