Now the weather finally seems to be picking up, everything is looking lovely and cheerful on the high street after a few months of terrible spring weather and very quiet times for retail, particularly with so many bank holidays in one month.
We would like to ask you all to support your local high street and #shoplocal all year round, rain or shine!
Over the last week or so it’s been great to see the high street transforming with a summery buzz, and exciting to see Hammond’s Wine Bar and Kinjo creating new outdoor spaces to give us even more fabulous al fresco dining and drinking options throughout the town. Station Road East’s Toast, Pan y Vino, Cafe Nero, Costa, Starbucks, Cucina, Coughlans, The Deli and Brisk all already have outdoor areas, alongside Cafe Papillon, Everyman Cinema, Cattle & Cocktail, The Oxted Inn and Robertsons on Station Road West.
Recent additions to Station Road West, Playtown and Dessert Spot will also have outdoor seating areas, so the street vibe is going to be great. We really are spoilt for choice in Oxted this summer!
The hanging baskets have now been given their summer colours and we’re ready to go, so let’s bring on the summer with some great events coming up over the next couple of months, including:
- Gem Fest 3rd / 4th June – a new family event with a mix of live music and kids entertainment and activities. Tickets still available. But must be purchased in advance. No tickets on the gates. https://gemfest.co.uk/
- The Oxted Pram Race on Sunday 25th June – always a great day with lots of fun through old Oxted and Master Park. Are you taking part? What’s your theme this year? Don’t forget to TAG @loveoxted into your posts and photos.
- The Oxted Festival – 7-9th July – our annual beer and music festival that is going to be great this year with its pared back, “Sign of the Times” focus on our favourite local music acts – RPJ and Randy & The Rockets, plus plenty of funk, soul and dance music; beer, food and Pimm’s to keep you all in the Festival spirit all weekend! Make sure you’ve bought tickets. You don’t want to miss this one!
- Summer Pop-Up Street Market – Saturday, July 15th – food, drink, artisan, vintage, homewares, fashion and accessories in various clusters around Station Road East and West. 11am-4pm. If you know a local business who’d like a stall, please let us know.
- Every Friday Morning – Oxted Country Market at The Woodhouse Centre. It has lots of fabulous locally made arts, crafts and food, so get down there and support these local endeavours.
