Baldwin & Robinson Law – achieving great results with a simple ethos

If you’ve been in need of some legal help over the last decade or so, you may well have come across Baldwin & Robinson Law, one of Oxted’s hidden gems, that while not visible from the high street, is working away for local businesses and residents behind closed doors…

Located in the Oxted Chambers building on the other side of the Waitrose car park, this down to earth legal firm was set up by Stuart Baldwin and Simon Robinson in 2010, aided by Simon’s wife, Mandy Robinson who is responsible for the business’s Financial and Legal Compliance, Strategy, IT and Marketing.

Simon and Stuart had previously worked together in another law firm, and having subsequently worked in separate firms, they maintained their friendship and were both ready to set up on their own at the same time. So in 2010, they took the plunge and set up an office from Stuart’s back garden in Chichele Road, Oxted. Within a year they had moved into more official surroundings of the Oxted Chambers and have been there ever since. Stuart has since retired (in 2019), but the name carries on the excellent reputation built by both founding partners.

Baldwin & Robinson was initially very focused on property, and while conveyancing and property law is still a major part of their work, their team of solicitors and specialist lawyers now undertake Residential Conveyancing, Commercial Property, Corporate Law (start ups, mergers, acquisitions and settlements), Private Client (wills, probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) and Trusts) and Litigation.

Working with many Oxted-based businesses, particularly with all the area’s estate agencies and commercial property agents, their work is largely, but not exclusively local, and being wholly independent they are very much in control of the destiny of the business, which is how they like it.

Mandy Robinson says one of the main advantages of being their own masters is that there are no politics that need to be dealt with. They can focus on what they love and that’s all about helping people through tricky situations, whether that’s wills and probate matters, starting up or selling a company or a house move. It also means they can create an environment for their employees that appreciates and enables enjoyment of their life outside of work as well as their job itself.

We asked our employees what they like most about working with us, and they all said said that having been in other firms, what they love about being here is just being able to get on with helping people and that’s really the ethos of the firm,” says Mandy. “We are able to be the antithesis of a stuffy law firm. We are proud of our reputation for being both efficient but also friendly and approachable in all aspects, and while we take our work seriously, we don’t take ourselves too seriously! Our office dog, Dexter makes sure of that. He’s there to keep us all grounded!”

Simon Robinson, a specialist in Corporate Law (business sales and purchases, mergers and acquisitions) and all aspects of Commercial Property work including Freehold and Leasehold Commercial Sales and Purchases, Landlord & Tenant negotiations and Land Development site Sales and Acquisitions, says: “Our goal at Baldwin & Robinson is to provide first class legal services in an approachable and friendly way. We want to do the best job possible at a competitive, reasonable price. It really is as simple as that.”

B&R pride themselves in being a part of the local community. Simon has taken part in the Oxted Pram Race on several occasions and the firm has sponsored many other local events, including the Titsey 10K, to the Caterham Beer Festival. They also sponsor the Caterham Pumas football team and often donate to local charities.
