The winners of the Love Oxted Photo Competition Are…

We’re very happy to announce the five winners of our World Photography Day Oxted photo competition (drum roll please)…

1. Sharon Revell – Tree roots Old Oxted

@hudds_photos: “I like the use of a leading line, taking the eyes of the view down the path and away.  It makes me think of how Oxted is bustling town, but there are lots of paths and lanes that take you into the beautiful AONB Surrey countryside.”

2. Zoe Ceely – @the_mill_cottage- The Mill in Old Oxted

@hudds_photos: “Sitting proud against the blue sky, this photo captures moments of Oxted’s past; its industry and working credentials which seems a far cry from what it is today. Love how the photographer has managed to make it look isolated, despite it being surrounded by a road, houses, garage and the pond.”

3.  Lynn Mills for Oxted rail underpass mosaic

@hudds_photos: “This is a great image. I like how the initial colours just seem bright and cheerful.  You then start to have a sense that there is more to the photo, so you work hard to pick out the mosaic animal.  How many of us walk the underpass under the station and just not see this superb artwork?”

4. Nicola Broodbank @nicolabroodbank for Hydrangeas Neb Lane and Daffodils Master Park

@hudds_photos: “Hydrangeas: I love the composition of this photo, the use of the space which is filled with the beautiful flowers then the contrasting colour of the child’s jacket.  It says we must stop and examine the beauty around us, it’s there and just take that moment. Lovely photo”.

@hudds_photos: “Daffodils: I really like how the photographer has thought hard about how they frame this shot. Often great photos are ones that give you different perspective, shot from a different angle or height. I like how they have used half the frame for the daffs too, again just reframing what we see each and every day.”

5. Douggie The Fruggie’s minder, Jon Mallett @jonmallettphotos for Vintage buses (and bonus photo of Douggie the Fruggie!)

@hudds_photos: “This is a regular occurrence in Oxted and a great opportunity to see some of the old buses. I like how the photographer has used the rule of thirds and maintained a dark and moody atmosphere to the photo with a little contrast of red with the second bus.”

@hudds_photos: “As far as Douggie’s sweet treat is concerned, there’s no explanation needed. A lovely example of dog friendly Oxted and our town’s favourite Insta pooch enjoying life in his hood!”

We would like to say thank you to Matt Talboys for judging these photos and thanks so much to everyone who participated. It’s been lovely seeing your personal views of Oxted.

Don’t stop with this competition though. We always love seeing your perspective and experiences of Oxted, so make sure you tag @loveoxted into any of your own social media posts featuring the town and its businesses.

Winners will be contacted via email.
