Spotlight on Oxted Electrical, a hidden gem and bastion of old school personal service

If you’ve been in Oxted for some time, you may have come across Oxted Electrical, an absolute gem of a store at the bottom of Station Road West (by the roundabout).

If you haven’t been there before, this shop is a treasure trove of all things electrical, selling everything you need for your home appliances, as well as the appliances themselves, has been a feature of Oxted business since 1982, when it was founded by David Dungate.

The shop, owned by respected local businessman, Rupesh Patel since 2008, is one of the last bastions of all that’s great about old-fashioned, in-person customer care, and there’s nothing Kate (daughter of David), Tim, John and manager, Kyle Randall won’t be able to help you with.

They stock everything from light bulbs of all sizes and types to leads, cords, small appliances like toasters, kettles, heaters, vacuum cleaners and fans to audio visual equipment and accessories, and large kitchen and laundry appliances from a wide selection of brands. There’s really nothing they can’t actually get for you if you ask nicely, and they will always do their best to price match with the big suppliers.

The huge advantage with Oxted Electrical is that the staff are actually there in person, on the end of a phone or in the shop, ready to help you with what you need, or with any post sales enquiry, fault, problem or servicing requirement.
They deliver locally and have resident technicians such as Peter who repairs small appliances, or Mike Simmonds (from Aktiv repairs) who repairs large appliances such as ovens, washing machines and tumble dryers.

If you’ve been in there recently, you’ll see that the store has had a bit of a change of layout and you quickly get to appreciate the huge space they have there.

So much so, that they are expanding their offer and will soon be selling full kitchens with their first floor being dedicated to a kitchen showroom, as a retailer for the hugely popular kitchen brands, Blossom Avenue and Burbidge Kitchens.

So next time you think about getting your electrical appliances and accessories from Amazon or one of the big online stores, pop down to Oxted Electrical first. They’re bound to have what you’re after… #shoplocal
